PRESENTATION

Instead of the reductive term of «documentary» my speech prefers to use that of «cinema of the real». Cinema was thus born and, while the «document» documents (which is to certify), cinema reveals. This kind of cinema can be close to poetry or prose; but can only be a cinema «subject», a cinema «gift» and not a cinema «object», a cinema «goods». Its gift is that of filming the «visible» in order to capture the «invisible». And all that passes through its breath (tone, pauses, accelerations) like it happens in music…

LUCIANO BARISONE

Film-club host, journalist and film critic (Filmcritica, Cineforum, Duellanti, La Stampa, Il Manifesto), Luciano Barisone in 1990 starts up the magazine Panoramiche, which he directs until 2010. He’s written several monographs about Catherine Breillat, Robert Guédiguian, Clint Eastwood, Naomi Kawase, Nicholas Philibert, Les Films d’Ici and Sidney Pollack. Since 1997 Luciano Barisone has contributed to numerous international film festivals, including the Locarno International Film Festival and the Venice International Film Festival. In 2002, he founded the Alba Infinity Festival, for which he has acted as artistic director until 2007. From 2008 to 2010 he was artistic director at Festival dei Popoli in Florence. Between 2011 and 2017 he has been the director of Visions du Réel in Nyon. He has served as member of the jury in several international film festivals in the world. At the moment he works as a creative producer and a consultant for several film markets and international film festivals.
