SYNOPSIS
According to ancient Mayan peoples, the genesis of the world is revealed in the darkness of a great big bang triggered by a cocoa bean. This truth, never forgotten, is still renewed today in Mexico through the spirit of shamans and farmers who recognize the universe only in the perpetuation of this seed. His journey, however, to the other side of the world, in Italy, brings us back to the different outlook of science. Here another genesis is taking place, through laboratories and microscopes, where the plant, dissected and cloned, announces secrets about our future and our planet.

Giuseppe Carrieri
Born in Naples in 1985, he is a director, producer and university teacher. He made his directorial debut in 2009 with the short film ‘La Polvere’, shot with non-professional actors in India, in the outskirts of Calcutta. In 2013 he shot the documentary ‘In Utero Srebrenica’ in Bosnia, later nominated for the David di Donatello, a black and white portrait of the still open wounds of Muslim mothers in search of the bones of their children twenty years after the genocide. In 2015 he founded the production company Natia Docufilm, with which the following year he produced the documentary ‘Hanaa’, dedicated to the stolen childhood of four teenage girls in India, Jordan, Peru and Nigeria. Since 2015 he has been collaborating with national and international television broadcasters and NGOs for the production of documentaries. Since 2018 he has been a professor of advanced directing at the IULM University of Milan and of documentary cinema at the Milan branch of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia.
